I LOVE THE NORTH!

Although, I would love to take credit for this pic, I have never been to Mt. Hekla, nor have I witnessed it erupt! On the contrary, I have seen the Northern lights on numerous occasions. One, from which my inspiration comes, I will never forget. When I was in Junior high, I layed on my front lawn and witnessed the most amazing show of colors that I have ever and probably ever will see again. The whole sky was filled with magnifisent colors that literally danced throughout the whole sky. They engulfed my visionon so much that i honestly thought that I was either being put in a trance or they were actually going to reach down to my little Leduc lawn and smother me . Until I catch some of mine own on camera, I thought that I would share some pics and a little bit of info on how it is that Heavenly Father creates these striking auroras. So.....What how does this all happen? When Solar Activity is high, the sun releases solar particles. With the help of solar winds these particles travel towards the Earth and are drawn into the atmosphere by the earth's magnetic field. When these electrically charged particles hit the outer layers of the atmosphere, they glow! Cool huh? How does this create different colors you might ask? Well...... It is the various gases in the atmosphere that create the spectrum of colors. What I find even more amazing is that we can view this wonder with our bare eyes from our own front lawn! Who would have thought that gases such as oxygen and nitrogen could assist the sky in being so pretty?!
